The Redoma Reserva comes from vineyards which are more than 80 years old, planted in mica-schist soils at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level. Since its first edition in 1995, the main objective in producing this wine has been to reflect the character of the Douro’s old vines. The best barriques were selected for the wine’s maturation in order to guarantee minerality, complexity and ageing potential.
Grape Varieties: Rabigato, Códega, Viosinho, Arinto and others. Average Vine Age 40 to 100 years.
Soil: Schist
Tasting Notes: A refined and quietly complex expression. The nose is layered and restrained, opening with delicate floral notes, honeysuckle and ripe apricot, lifted by a clear thread of citrinos. On the palate, the wine is taut and focused, its great acidity providing drive and definition. Subtle vanilla bean adds texture and breadth through the mid-palate without excess. The finish is long and lingering, gently buttery yet precise, leaving a lasting impression of balance, freshness and quiet authority.
Vinification: The grapes were rigorously selected upon arrival at the winery, followed by slow and gentle pressing. Without skin maceration, the must rested for 24 hours, followed by a slow alcoholic fermentation in barrels. Redoma Reserva aged in barrels for 9 months. Malolactic fermentation was carried out in full.
Ageing: 9 months in French oak barriques.
Gastronomy: Grilled fish Salt cod confit in olive oil and garlic Roast chicken with lemon, thyme and a touch of cream Mushroom risotto. Suitable for Vegans & Vegetarians.
Winemaker: Dirk Niepoort
