QUINTA DAS MURGAS

For lovers of special wines. Produced in one of the oldest wine-growing regions in the world. This is the land where João grew up and whose vineyards, planted by his grandfather, he tried to restore in 2014 with the help of winemaker Bernardo Cabral, who also has a special affection for the region where he began his career. "I was demoralized, with the land abandoned, not knowing exactly what to do and when I brought Bernardo here his eyes lit up: 'you have a pearl here'," he told me. The 12 hectares of vines, in a deeply calcareous soil, characteristic of Bucelas, provide fertile soil for markedly mineral wines, in this case with Arinto as the main grape variety, as well as Esgana Cão (Cercial) and Touriga Franca from old vines. There's also the strength of the Atlantic terroir, which Murgas finds because it's located in the far west of the region, closer to the ocean, and with a humid nocturnal climate and no great variation in temperature. The result is conditions conducive to small productions of a unique wine.
