Menin Touriga Nacional Tinto 2021

MENIN Touriga Nacional 2021 is born from the selection of the best plots of the Touriga Nacional grape variety, with the aim of demonstrating the potential of the MENIN DOURO ESTATES terroir for the various native grape varieties of the Douro. The different selected plots are located at altitudes of 180 to 240 m with North, South and West exposures.

Grape Varieties: 100% Touriga Nacional

Viticultural Year: The 2021 vintage year was characterized as a cool year in the Douro Demarcated Region. With the high rainfall recorded during the spring, there was a high pressure from fungal diseases, which led to rigorous monitoring of each grape variety and plot. The summer was cool, resulting in a slower and more gradual ripening of the different grape varieties.

Vinification: After manual harvesting, the grapes were transported to the winery in 18 kg maximum capacity boxes, thus preserving their integrity and quality. The different plots of the Touriga Nacional variety were harvested according to their ripeness. Subsequently, the grapes passed through a sorting table, undergoing destemming and crushing, and were moved by gravity to stainless steel fermentation tanks. Pre-fermentation maceration was carried out at low temperatures ranging from 24 to 48 hours, followed by alcoholic fermentation at temperatures between 25-27ºC. After alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine was transferred to 225L oak barrels.

Ageing: Aged for 16 months in oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: MENIN Touriga Nacional 2021 is a wine with a rich and complex profile, with a good balance between its fruity character, highlighting notes of black and red fruits, and the typical floral notes of the grape variety, violet and Earl Grey. Powerful and voluminous tannins find finesse in the balanced acidity.
