Menin Tinto 2021

MENIN TINTO 2021 is born from the selection of different grape varieties and different exposures. Predominantly facing East-South and with schist soils, the different plots are located at altitudes ranging from 80 to 350m, which requires rigorous monitoring of the ripening of the different terroirs.

Grape Varieties: 70% Touriga Franca, 15% Touriga Nacional, 10% Tinta Roriz 5% Tinta Barroca.

Viticultural Year: The 2021 viticultural year was characterized as a cool year in the Douro Demarcated Region. With the high rainfall recorded during the spring, there was a high pressure from fungal diseases, which led to rigorous monitoring of each grape variety and plot. The summer was cool, resulting in a slower and more gradual ripening of the different grape varieties.

Vinification: The harvest was carried out gradually, even with variations in ripeness between the different plots. After harvesting, the grapes were transported to the winery in boxes with a maximum capacity of 18 kg, thus preserving their integrity and quality. The different harvested plots were vinified separately, where the grapes passed through a sorting table, subsequently undergoing destemming and crushing, and were moved by gravity to stainless steel fermentation tanks. Pre-fermentation maceration was carried out at low temperatures, varying from 24 to 48 hours depending on the grape variety, followed by alcoholic fermentation at temperatures between 25-27ºC. After alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, 30% of the wine was transferred to 225L oak barrels.

Ageing: 70% Stainless steel and 30% Used barrels.

Tasting Notes: MENIN TINTO 2021 presents a medium-intensity ruby ​​color. The aroma highlights notes of fresh fruit, predominantly red and black fruits, revealing the wine's youthful character. The aromatic complexity is enriched by delicate spice notes, originating from the portion of the batch aged in barrels. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced, with polished tannins that contribute to good structure and volume, resulting from the combination of the purity of the fruit preserved in stainless steel and the elegance conferred by the wood.
