Menin Touriga Franca Tinto 2021

MENIN Touriga Franca is born from the selection of the best plots of the Touriga Franca grape variety, with the aim of demonstrating the potential of the MENIN DOURO ESTATES terroir for the various native grape varieties of the Douro. The different selected plots are located at altitudes of 90 to 160m with North, South and West exposures.

Grape Varieties: 100% Touriga Franca

Viticultural Year: The 2021 viticultural year was characterized as a cool year in the Douro Demarcated Region. With the high rainfall recorded during the spring, there was a high pressure from fungal diseases, which led to rigorous monitoring of each grape variety and plot. The summer was cool, resulting in a slower and more gradual ripening of the different grape varieties.

Vinification: After manual harvesting, the grapes were transported to the winery in boxes with a maximum capacity of 18 kg, thus preserving their integrity and quality. The different plots of the Touriga Franca variety were harvested according to their ripeness. Subsequently, the grapes passed through a sorting table, undergoing destemming and crushing, and were moved by gravity to stainless steel fermentation tanks. Pre-fermentation maceration was carried out at low temperatures ranging from 24 to 48 hours, followed by alcoholic fermentation at temperatures between 25-27ºC. After alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine was transferred to 225L oak barrels.

Ageing: Aged for 18 months in oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: A wine with a very pure varietal profile, where the grape variety shows the intensity of the black and red fruits (blackberries, blackcurrants, black plums and wild berries) and some blue fruit reminiscent of blueberries, but always balanced by the floral sensations of rose petals. In the mouth, it shows the essence of the grape variety through its very structured, silky and persistent tannins.
