Menin 54 Castas Vinhas Centenárias Tinto 2020

Menin 54 Castas Vinhas Centenárias represents the ultimate expression of Douro winemaking tradition and the passion of Menin Douro Estates. Stemming from a truly unique viticultural heritage, this wine is born from centennial co-planted vineyards, where 54 indigenous grape varieties coexist in perfect harmony. The result is a wine of extraordinary complexity, defined by the singular identity of the Douro and the timeless character of its terroir.

Grape Varieties: Field blend

Viticultural Year: The 2020 viticultural year was characterized by fluctuations in temperature and rainfall, ultimately resulting in a hot and dry year. High rainfall during the spring led to significant fungal disease pressure, necessitating rigorous monitoring of each grape variety and vineyard plot. However, the summer proved to be very hot and dry, accelerating ripening and yielding wines of great concentration.

Winemaking: The harvest proceeded gradually, despite variations in ripeness across the different vineyard plots. After harvesting, the grapes were transported to the winery in crates with a maximum capacity of 18 kg, thereby preserving their full integrity and quality. The grapes from the various plots were vinified separately; they passed along a sorting belt before undergoing destemming and crushing, and were then transferred by gravity into stainless steel fermentation tanks. A pre-fermentation maceration was carried out at low temperatures for 24 to 48 hours, followed by alcoholic fermentation at temperatures between 25°C and 27°C. Once alcoholic and malolactic fermentations were complete in the stainless steel tanks, the wine was racked into 225-litre oak barrels.

Maturation: 20 months in barrels.

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby colour. Very complex nose, with notes of sour cherry, dark chocolate, truffle, cedar, and black pepper. An enveloping palate, with excellent structure and polished tannins. A red wine full of charm and complexity, with a very long life ahead of it.
