Originating in Bairrada, between the foothills of the Buçaco mountain range and the sea, Giz is a wine that uniquely expresses the characteristics of the limestone soils from which it comes. Made from old vines, using native grape varieties planted in poor, stony soils, the raw material here is scarce but extremely precious. Produced with total commitment to nature, intervention in the natural process is minimal, both in the vineyard and in the winery. The result is a wine without masks, authentic, structured, elegant and complex, full of individuality and character.
Grape Varieties: A blend originating from different plots of old vines, in calcareous soil, where the predominant grape varieties are Bical, Maria Gomes, Rabo de Ovelha and Arinto.
Tasting Note: A complex and well-defined aroma, with notes of citrus fruits, stone fruits, and light floral hints. Notes of toast and brioche add aromatic complexity. On the palate, it proves to be an elegant wine, full of minerality and freshness, reflecting well the calcareous soils from which it comes. It is simultaneously a deep, structured, and complex wine, with a long and persistent finish.
Winemaking: Grapes lightly pressed with whole bunches. Harvesting took place in February 2023. After fermentation in the bottle, it was aged on lees for 36 months. Disgorgement was carried out in February 2026.
Gastronomy: Bairrada style suckling pig.
Winemaker: Luís Gomes
