Vineyards: Granitic soils. Produced from a special plot of a very old, pre-phylloxera vineyard situated on a small granite plateau (600m altitude) in the parish of Freixo de Numão, 15 km west of Foz Côa.
Grape varieties: Field blend of around 10 traditional varieties, including Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Códega, Gouveio, Donzelinho Branco, Folgazão, and Arinto.
Winemaking: Grapes hand-harvested in small crates. The grapes are chilled and subsequently pressed in a pneumatic press, without destemming. Cold settling is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in French oak barrels, with regular bâtonnage until one month before bottling.
Aging: 11 months in used oak barrels, with regular bâtonnage. 6 months in bottle.
Tasting Notes: Tremendous complexity, concentration, and aromatic intensity. It is a velvety white wine with aromas of ripe citrus fruits—such as orange peel—ripe apricots, and balsamic notes. It displays notes of dried fruits and wet stone, along with great acidity.
