This wine is 100% Bastardo, one of the leading grape varieties of the 18th century; however, due to its very early ripening and lack of colour, it was progressively abandoned in favour of new criteria.
Grape Varieties: Bastardo
Vineyards: Located in Vale da Teja on a hillside plot with schist soil. The vineyard was planted before 1990 and grafted from the Bolha variety to Bastardo Tinto approximately 15 years ago.
Winemaking: Grapes hand-picked from the highest part of the plot, 10 days before the red Bastardo. Whole-cluster pressing; due to the Bastardo cluster's characteristic uneven coloration, a colorless free-run juice was obtained. Fermentation took place in a used barrel within a cold room at 18ºC.
Tasting Notes: Mineral aroma, with notes of red fruit, white stone fruit, and a touch of oak. Very elegant on the palate—fresh, smooth, and refined, with subtle toasty notes; it shows good mid-palate presence and a persistent finish.
