MENIN Gouveio 2024 is made from Gouveio grapes, grown at our Quinta do Sol estate. Located at an altitude ranging from 400 to 480 meters.
Grape Varieties: 100% Gouveio
Vintage Year: The 2024 vintage year was marked by a warm and rainy winter and a spring with above-average rainfall, especially in March, anticipating bud break. Mold and powdery mildew pressure was successfully controlled. The summer was hot and dry, with sporadic rains that favored balanced ripening. The harvest took place between August 21st and October 14th, with the grapes arriving at the wineries in excellent sanitary and ripe condition, resulting in a generous and high-quality production.
Winemaking: After manual harvesting, the grapes are transported in 18kg capacity boxes to avoid damaging the bunch. Once at the winery, the boxes are unloaded onto a sorting conveyor for the first selection of the grapes. This is followed by destemming, berry-by-berry selection, and crushing, with the grapes then being transported by gravity to a pneumatic press. After clarification of the must, alcoholic fermentation began in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures of around 14ºC, in order to preserve the varietal character of the variety. Alcoholic fermentation lasted approximately 15 days, after which, following a rest, the batch aged for 8 months in French oak barrels.
Ageing: 8 months in oak barrels on fine lees "sur lies" with periodic bâtonnage.
Tasting Notes: MENIN Gouveio 2024 is a citrus wine. The aroma reveals citrus notes of grapefruit, lime, and tangerine, hints of orange peel, and light touches of spice. Minerality is very present, accompanied by slight suggestions of gunpowder and pepper. On the palate, it shows lively and well-integrated acidity, with good complexity, a firm body, and persistence.
Enology:: João Rosa Alves / Tiago Alves de Sousa.
