António Madeira, a Frenchman of Portuguese descent, has his roots in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela. Since 2010, he has been researching sites in this sub-region that our ancestors chose as the best for viticulture—what might be termed the "Grands Crus of the Dão highlands"—and has discovered a number of old vineyards distinguished by the authenticity of their grape varieties, the characteristics and nuances of their granitic soils, and their sun exposure.
Grape Varieties: Field blend from old vines, with Jaen, Baga, and Tinta Amarela among the main varieties, accompanied by other indigenous varieties.
Soil: High-altitude granite.
Vinification: Natural winemaking using only indigenous yeasts, with fermentation taking place in vats. The process relies strictly on infusion (minimizing mechanical extraction) to maintain an elegant and silky profile. Aged for 18 months in used 500-liter French oak barrels. Bottled in August 2024.
Tasting Notes: A highly fragrant, complex, and profound nose. It reveals floral notes, tart red fruit, dark earthy/tree-bark tones, and nuances of wild herbs. On the palate, it has medium body and a remarkably elegant, linear, and consistent profile. It features very fine, silky tannins, with a finish that is distinctly fresh, mineral, and granite-like.
