Vintage Port maintains Niepoort's tradition of making balanced Ports with great concentration, being at the same time fine and delicate. We strongly believe we can make a Vintage Port with potencial to last for decades. Vintage Port must be bottled within two or three years of the harvest date. The magic of Vintage Port is different in every phase: as a young wine it captures the youthful fruit characters. Then, after 40/50 years or more, the effects of the slow bottle age integration are revealed and finally, after many decades, the spirit dominates the wine.

Grape Varieties: Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Roriz and others. Average Vine Age 80 to 100 Years.

Soil: Schiste

Tasting Notes: Crafted by knowledge, for those who are prepared to wait. Aroma: Profound and restrained from the first moment, the nose is layered rather than forceful, revealing black cherry, black plum and crystalline cassis with quiet authority. Douro rockrose anchors the profile, while subtle notes of rosemary and lavender bring lift and tension. A finely etched violet note adds poise and clarity, suggesting depth without excess and a wine built for time rather than immediate impact. Palate: Imposing in its structure and line, this is a Vintage Port of restraint, precision and absolute confidence. Concentrated and powerful at the core, yet never heavy, it is defined by freshness, clarity and tension. The unusually dry profile for a Vintage (2.9° Baumé) sharpens the wine’s architecture, allowing fine, disciplined tannins to frame the fruit rather than dominate it. Energy, not mass, drives the palate. The finish is extraordinarily long and controlled, unfolding slowly with lingering peppery spice and a saline freshness that speak unmistakably of longevity. This is not a Vintage built to impress today, but one destined to define its era over decades.

Vinification: The growing season unfolded with remarkable balance, marked by cool nights and slow, even ripening. These conditions preserved vibrant natural acidity and crystalline aromatic purity, yielding musts of notable concentration and precision. “It was a brilliant year,” says Nick Delaforce, winemaker at Niepoort. “Very fresh, with naturally high acidity — completely aligned with our house style. It reminds me of classical declarations such as 1960, 1970 or 2005.” The resulting Vintage is defined by firm, finely chiselled structure and layered depth. Concentrated yet poised, it combines tension with clarity, suggesting impressive longevity and the capacity to evolve gracefully over decades.

Ageing: 2 years in "Tonel".

Gastronomy: It pairs perfectly with cheeses such as “Queijo da Serra,” Stilton or other blue cheeses, as well as with chocolate desserts or a few squares of dark chocolate.
