Exploring two exceptionally rare conditions in the Douro – a pure Viosinho vineyard at 600m altitude – that allow for the production of a distinctive wine.
The Year: In 2023, the growing season proceeded favorably with rainfall that helped replenish the soil's water level. The relatively mild summer resulted in balanced grape ripening. However, rainfall in the final days of the harvest altered the prospects for a completely healthy harvest. Fortunately, the quality of the grapes vinified on time suggests a good harvest year.
Grape Varieties: Viosinho
Vineyards Altitude: 600 to 700m
Soil: Shale/Granite
Tasting Notes: Aroma with very delicate fruit notes, finesse and elegance, revealing the unmistakable character of the grape variety. On the palate, it impresses with its excellent acidity and buttery texture, which give it sophistication and enormous gastronomic aptitude.
Winemaking: Grapes with total destemming followed by pressing under an inert atmosphere to preserve the aromatic potential of the grapes. Viticultural fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Approximately 85% of the batch remained for two months in stainless steel vats subject to the stirring of fine lees (batonnage). The remaining 15% fermented and aged in used French oak barrels, where they also underwent batonnage for two months.
Serving Suggestion: Serve between 8 and 10°C, reaching its peak after 15 minutes, when the temperature has risen slightly and the wine has oxygenated. Ideal for delicate fish and seafood dishes, although it also pairs well with poultry and rabbit dishes.
