Quinta do Poeira is located in Provesende, along a hillside in the Pinhão River valley. Its northern exposure is a key aspect for the style of wines that it seeks to produce. Temperatures in the region are always very high in the summer, and on a north-facing slope the grapes ripen more slowly, better preserving the aromas, flavors and acidity.
“I want to make a wine that is balanced and elegant, not heavy, tannic and boring. In general, Douro wines are supported by tannin, but Poeira is supported by acidity,” explains winemaker Jorge Moreira.
Grape Varieties: Old Vine. Traditional Douro grape varieties.
Winemaking: Hand-harvested into 20kg boxes. Vinification in stone presses with foot treading. Fermentation in press. Malolactic fermentation in barrels. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. After bottling, it was aged for 10 years in controlled temperature and humidity conditions.
Tasting Notes: With intense aromas of wild blackberries, dark chocolate and exotic spices, it enters the mouth with great freshness, a polished texture with restrained wood. Its solidity and vigor present persistent but round tannins, with a long finish.
Winemaker: Jorge Moreira
