The Year: Dry winter, with 15 to 40% less rainfall. Warm February and March, rain in April and May. Some rain from June to August. Slow ripening: harvest
delayed by two weeks. Temperatures in September hover around 40°C. Wines of excellent quality, concentrated and appealing from a young age, with very evident fruit.
Viticulture: From Quinta da Vista Alegre, located in Cima Corgo, where there are vines over 95 years old, as well as younger ones resulting from a restructuring plan implemented since the late 1980s. The vines are planted on old terraces with a predominantly south-facing orientation.
Grape Varieties: With 23 different grape varieties recognized in our old vineyards, some of the most representative are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão.
Vinification: Grapes from a single harvest are hand-harvested into small shipping crates and vinified using the traditional Port Wine method. After partial destemming, the grapes are crushed in stone lagares with foot treading. Fermentation of the must takes place at a controlled temperature and is interrupted by the addition of brandy. This wine, as produced, has great aging potential.
Ageing: Wine from a single harvest, aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 7 years. The year of bottling is indicated on the back label.
Tasting Notes: Color: Tawny, with orange hues. Aroma: Balanced, delicate, and very elegant due to its aging in oak casks, exuding a wide range of aromas: caramel, vanilla, honey, and dried fruits. Delicate notes of smoke and caramelized fruit. Palate: Very rich, velvety, and with great subtlety, contributing to a long and persistent finish.
Serving Instructions: A pleasant accompaniment to dried fruits: almonds, raisins, peaches, and apricots. It also pairs well with sweet desserts, such as eggs or dried fruit pies, coffee, and vanilla. However, this wine can be perfectly drunk on its own, chilled, or at the end of a meal. Since Port Wine is a natural product, it is susceptible to deposits.
Storage: Store the bottle upright at a constant temperature and away from light. After opening, consume within 1 to 4 months.
