Vineyard: The Quinta da Carolina vineyard dates back to 1931, with about 2 hectares. Native varieties of Douro, with Tinta Amarela standing out, Tinto Cão, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Francisca, Rufete, Tinta Roriz, Bastard, among others. The exposure to the North, in a hot zone, together with the diversity of grape varieties allows us to harvest a little earlier than the normal, always finding a balance between degrees of ripeness.
Vinification: After a careful selection, the grapes went with whole bunch to the cement mill where ferment at controlled temperature. After a period of steeping, about a week, the grapes are pressed and the wine continues the fermentation processes in 500 liter French and Austrian oak barrels. Ageing of 24 months in the mentioned barrels, followed by a year in stainless steel, where it stabilizes naturally throughout the seasons. Bottled manually, by gravity without filtering or pasting and with minimal SO2 adjustments
Tasting Notes: Q uinta da Carolina 2019 is a wine with a little extracted profile, we look for the elegance and freshness that an old vineyard exposure to the north can give us. Open ruby color, shallow, with herbal notes combined with fresh fruit on the nose, deep and persistent in the mouth with the Douro characteristics very present and notes of wooden stage. A wine to enjoy as young, but with clear aging ability. Advisable for decanting.
