A timeless wine. Maynard's is probably one of the most iconic Port Wine Houses. Along with its centuries of existence, it has one of the largest collections of old wine, which is, from time to time, revealed to the public in limited quantities. Among such precious jewels, Colheita 1971 can be found. In the years before bottling, the wine aged peacefully, in damp and cool cellars, far from mundane concerns, allowing the slow development of the complex aromas so typical of Tawny Port Wine. old. There are many stories that appear and are associated with wine, but one can never be certain about its future. Some say that the wine corresponds to some remains of an old Vintage Port from 1971, kept in casks and never remembered again. Others claim that it is an old barrel inherited by the Van Zeller family after the sale of a Port Wine company. Amazingly, the barrel was discovered not long ago, by pure chance, when Álvaro Van Zeller was searching an old family cellar in the Douro. Today, a small amount of this old Tawny is released to celebrate 50 years of aging in wood. An unforgettable experience.

Tasting Notes: Mahogany core with splashes of olive on a wide golden rim. Aromas reveal a spicy aged character amidst a fragrant multidimensional contour. The palate is superbly concentrated. With a rich and velvety texture, it evokes sweet notes of molasses, dried apricots and marmalade, finely balanced by a touch of persistent acidity. It ends in a slow, sumptuous dance that prompts the next drink.

Storage and Service: This wine ages for a long time in small casks, supplying the need for decanting. Precipitation is a natural phenomenon and ends up occurring slowly and gradually over time of aging. Store the bottle in a dark and cool place, with a constant temperature, preferably between 12 and 15ºC. Serve slightly chilled. Once opened, consume between 4 to 6 weeks.

Pairing: Maynard's 1971 is a piece of history. It should therefore be enjoyed on its own, undisturbed, in the comfort of an armchair. It can also be served as an excellent accompaniment to desserts. Pairs divinely with Chocolate, Hazelnut and Pear Cake. For contrasting harmonization, strong cheeses such as Grana Padano.
